The Dog, the Cock and the Fox Story

Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a dog, a cock, and a fox. They were neighbors and often found themselves engaging in arguments and competing against one another.

One morning, the cock crowed loudly, as he typically did every day, to announce the arrival of dawn. The dog, who had enjoyed a peaceful slumber, woke up irritated and growled at the cock, “Why do you have to be so noisy? The entire village is disturbed by your constant crowing! Can’t you be more considerate?”

The cock, feeling defensive, responded, “My dear friend, it is my duty and nature to crow at sunrise. It helps people wake up and start their day. If I don’t do my job, who will?”

The dog, still grumpy, muttered, “Well, your job disrupts my rest, and that’s not fair. I wish I could teach you a lesson.”

Hearing this conversation, the cunning fox, who had been eavesdropping nearby, saw an opportunity for mischief. He approached the dog and said, “Dear friend, I understand your frustration. The cock is indeed a disturbance. However, I have a plan that might solve our problem.”

Curious, the dog asked, “What is your plan, wise fox?”

The fox explained, “Tonight, when the cock falls asleep, you must guard him carefully to ensure he remains silent until the morning. By doing so, you’ll teach him a lesson, and we can finally enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep.”

The dog, liking the idea of taming the cock, eagerly agreed to the fox’s plan. That night, as the cock settled in his cozy nest, the faithful dog stood guard beside him.

At midnight, the fox approached, expecting the cock to be sound asleep. However, the cock was vigilant and detected the fox’s presence. The cock quickly flapped his wings, crowed loudly, and woke up the dog.

Enraged by the plan’s failure, the dog chased the fox, who managed to escape through a small hole in the fence. The dog realized he had fallen into the fox’s trap and was left empty-handed.
